First Nation, Métis and Inuit Education

Dancers move around the drum during a pow wow on the St. Thomas Aquinas field.

At Kenora Catholic we recognize that we live on Treaty #3 traditional territory. We strongly believe that it is important children understand and appreciate the culture, traditions and language of the Treaty #3 First Nations and Métis and we are proud to offer a variety of programs in our schools.

In 2017-2018 we began the Elder in Residence Program. We have one elder located at the Catholic Education Centre. They support language and culture initiatives across the board. We are pleased to offer Ojibway language (Anishinabemowiin) studies at St. Louis School, Pope John Paul II, and St. Thomas Aquinas High School. We believe Anishinabemowiin is something that should be cherished and taught to future generations.
