St. Louis Living Arts School has once again brought joy and creativity to the stage with their latest production, "Fraggle Rock." This year’s production, inspired by the beloved 1980s television series, is a testament to the school's dedication to fostering the arts and creating memorable experiences for students and the community.

The idea to bring "Fraggle Rock" to life came from two students who received the original series as a Christmas gift last year. Their enthusiasm and suggestion to turn it into a play resonated with the staff, leading to an entirely new script being crafted from scratch. The process began in the fall, with the story being finalized over the Christmas break and auditions for lead roles held in January.

Kerri Favreau, a teacher at St. Louis Living Arts School and the production manager for "Fraggle Rock," shared some of the challenges and triumphs of the production. "Our two biggest challenges were cost and space," Favreau explained. "We strive for high-quality productions, from the set to the lighting and music, along with all the details in between. Sewing costumes and purchasing makeup for an entire school is no small feat." The school received generous support from the School Council, and enthusiastic audiences contributed through ticket sales.

Space constraints also posed a challenge, necessitating four performances over two days to accommodate the audience in the school gym. This required a significant commitment from parents and volunteers, but it ensured that hundreds of people could enjoy the show.

Despite these challenges, the production was a resounding success, highlighting the special community spirit at St. Louis Living Arts School. Every student participates in these projects during their time at the school, fostering a love for the arts and providing numerous educational benefits.

Adding to the production's professional quality were Lenard Whiting as the musical director and Edward Franko, a guest director who has previously directed four productions at the school. Their expertise and guidance helped elevate the performance, making it a truly unforgettable experience for all involved.

"Our productions truly celebrate the special community we have at our school," said Favreau. "We love that all students take part in these projects during their years at St. Louis. A musical is a beautiful way to bring together many of the arts, and we see firsthand the tremendous benefits to our students."
