Students from St. Louis Living Arts School recently stepped outside the classroom for a meaningful outdoor learning experience, joining their families for a nature hike on Wednesday, February 25. The outing, led by teacher Kerri Favreau, brought together students, parents, and guardians for an afternoon focused on connection, exploration, and appreciation of the natural environment.
The group began their visit with a unique hands-on activity, spending the first 15 minutes feeding birds and observing local wildlife. The experience gave students an opportunity to learn about nature up close while practicing patience and respect for living creatures.
Following the bird-feeding activity, participants set out on a 45-minute hike through the scenic trails of Vernon Nature Area. Along the way, families enjoyed fresh winter air, shared conversations, and explored the surrounding landscape together. The hike concluded at a picturesque viewpoint, where students paused to take in the natural beauty of the area and reflect on their journey.
The outing highlighted the school’s commitment to experiential learning — blending outdoor education, family engagement, and wellness. By learning beyond classroom walls, students strengthened their connection to nature while building community with classmates and their families.
Events like this continue to reflect St. Louis Living Arts School’s focus on nurturing creativity, curiosity, and a lifelong appreciation for the world around us.
